Giles Corey was an English-born American wealthy farmer who was born in August 1611 in Northampton, England in the United Kingdom to Giles Corey Sr. and Elizabeth Corey. Giles Corey was arrested and charged with witchcraft, together with his wife Martha Corey, during the Salem witch trials.

Giles Corey was first married to Margaret Corey until she died in 1664 and then to Mary Bright from 1664 till she also died in 1684. Corey then got married to Martha Corey from 1690 until he died in 1692.

How did Giles Corey die?

Giles Corey was asked to plead guilty or not guilty. However, Corey refused to plead guilty or not guilty. Corey was subjected to torture by pressing. This was to urge him to plead guilty but he still refused.

On September 19, 1692, that was three days after the torture, Giles Corey passed away in Salem, Province of Massachusetts Bay. Because Giles Corey did not plead guilty, his estates were given to children instead of being seized by the government.
