Dahmer had a conventional upbringing, by all accounts, but as he got older, he became reclusive and stopped talking. He began to show little to no interest in hobbies or social interaction as he approached puberty, instead choosing to explore animal carcasses and engage in binge drinking. He continued to drink throughout high school, but it had no effect on his ability to graduate in 1978.

Dahmer died at Columbia Correctional Institution after being attacked by another inmate called Christopher Scarver.
On November 28, 1994, Jesse Anderson, Dahmer, and Scarver were all led from their cells and forced to carry out their given tasks, which included cleaning the lavatory block.
The three had been left alone in the shower area for roughly twenty minutes when Dahmer was found on the bathroom floor around eight-ten in the morning with severe head injuries.
It was discovered that Scarver had beat Dahmer with a bar he had taken from the prison gym and was holding a newspaper clipping outlining the criminal’s offences. Scarver tucked the bar into the leg of his jeans.
Dahmer was severely fractured in his face and head but managed to survive the initial beating. One hour after being brought to the hospital, he passed away.
