Over the course of his career, Blavat grew to be a significant force in the promotion of oldies music on the radio. Before starting his own independent radio show, the American DJ and performer, who many people in Philadelphia considered to be an icon, hosted live dances in the city. With Lee Stewart and Bob Horn, Blavat made his television debut on the original Bandstand on WFIL-TV in 1953.
