Reynolds won his first acting gig as a professional when he was only 12 years old. He was cast in the Canadian adolescent drama Hillside, which was eventually renamed Fifteen when it was broadcast in the US between 1991 and 1993. Reynolds had trouble proceeding with his career after the Fifteen movies hit.

Ryan was given a few small parts, such as a cameo on The X-Files. After finishing high school, Reynolds still had to take odd jobs to make ends meet and as a result, he worked a late-night shift at a grocery store.
