He made his Major League Baseball debut with Atlanta on June 7, 2009, He remained a Brave through 2012, and spent his final Major League season pitching for the Angels in 2013, after being traded to them.

Hanson reached a major league contract with the Texas Rangers on February 11, 2014, after which he was released on March 26.

Hanson agreed to a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox on April 7, 2014, and he also played for the Charlotte Knights throughout the season before he had a shoulder injury, which occurred on June 12 that forced him to miss the remaining season.
