Born in the United States on November 7, 1989, Sonny Gray is a pitcher for the Minnesota Twins in Major League Baseball. The Cincinnati Reds, Oakland Athletics, and New York Yankees were among his previous teams. The Minnesota Twins received Gray from the Reds on March 13, 2022 in exchange for Chase Petty and Francis Peguero. Gray played baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores while he was a student at Vanderbilt University. Gray was chosen by the Athletics in the opening round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

2013 marked the year that he debuted in Major League Baseball. Throughout the course of 2014, he received two American League Pitcher of the Month Awards. For the 2015 season, he was selected as an MLB All-Star. Gray, who was later transferred to the Reds, was acquired by the Yankees in a trade before the 2019 season.
