Eric Maxwell Johnson was a former tight end for the National Football League. Eric was taken in the seventh round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Eric played football at Yale throughout his undergraduate years.

Johnson was born in the town of Needham, Massachusetts. In Massachusetts, he attended Needham High School as well as Belmont Hill School. Johnson later participated in the wide receiver for Yale University. Eric caught 21 catches for 244 yards and the decisive touchdown catch in Yale’s victory over Harvard in the 1999 Harvard-Yale game.

Johnson was chosen in the seventh round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers’ passing game benefited from Eric’s presence while he was healthy.

Johnson, however, missed the entirety of 2003 and 2005 due to injury. Johnson has 82 catches for 825 yards and two scores in 2004, leading the 49ers in receiving. During the 2006 season, Johnson and the team’s first-round draft selection, tight end Vernon Davis, shared playing time.
