During his visit, Mateschitz observed that Krating Daeng helped him recover from jet lag. Together with Yoovidhya, Mateschitz co-founded Red Bull GmbH in 1984, growing it into a global brand. To finance the business, each partner contributed US$500,000 of savings. Mateschitz and Yoovidhya both owned 49 percent of the new business. The remaining two percent was given to Chalerm, Yoovidhya’s son, although Mateschitz was to operate the business. On April 1st, 1987, the product was initially introduced in Austria.
Energy drinks are especially popular among blue-collar employees in Thailand. Red Bull rebranded the drink as a stylish, upmarket beverage, first presenting it in Austrian ski resorts. Red Bull was positioned as a premium drink, while Krating Daeng was positioned as a lesser-priced item. Both drinks are accessible in numerous countries, dominating both ends of the pricing spectrum. Red Bull flavoring is still manufactured in Bangkok and shipped globally.
