Mat Kilau, the main character, is portrayed as a Malay warrior who battled British colonists in Pahang, British Malaya before the country gained its independence.
The Syamsul Yusof-directed movie, which also stars Yayan Ruhian and Yayan Ruhian, also features supporting performances by Beto Kusyairy, Fattah Amin, Yayan Ruhian, Geoff Andre Feyaerts, and Johan As’ari. Despite having its official poster unveiled on May 13 of this year, Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan’s official trailer was released on June 16 of that same year.
Mat Kilau was formally launched on June 23, 2022, while the preview event was conducted at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) on the same day.
The movie, which was a commercial triumph and cost RM8 million to create, earned RM96 million in 40 days, making it the most successful Malaysian movie of all time.
