Leo attended Blessed Robert Southwell now St. Oscar Romero Catholic School in Goring-by-Sea after graduating from St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Shoreham-by-the-Sea. He then attended West Sussex College of Art and Design in Worthing, Sussex, where he studied industrial painting and graphic design. Along with “Giving It All Away,” which gave Roger Daltrey of the Who his first solo hit in 1973, Leo began his musical career as a songwriting collaborator with David Courtney.
David Courtney, a musician, was the first, who came across him, and then Adam Faith, a former pop singer who is now a manager, co-managed and co-produced with him. Sayer was 18 years old back then, and he was a porter in the hall of the King’s Hotel in Hove when a serious fire destroyed the first floor of the building and necessitated the rescue of elderly guests. Construction workers on a residential building next to the hotel helped him escape the burning hotel.
