Smith is the third most successful jockey of all time, with earnings of approximately $336 million.

Mike Smith Career

When Smith rode Four Stars Allstar to victory in the Irish 2,000 Guineas in 1991, he became one of the few American riders to win a European classic.

He had his big break the same year, when he became New York’s leading jockey for the first of three years, from 1991 to 1993, with 330, 297, and 313 victories, respectively.

The next year, he won the Breeders’ Cup Mile with Lure, his first Breeders’ Cup victory.

Smith, who won the Kentucky Derby twice with longshot Giacomo (2005) and favourite Justify (2018), also won the Preakness and Belmont Stakes with Justify, making him the oldest jockey to win the Triple Crown at 52.
