Bill Gibbons started out in the Moving Sidewalks, who released Flash (1968) and performed four shows as the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s opening act. Gibbons founded ZZ Top in late 1969, and the group’s debut album was made available in early 1971.
Gibbons also has a gravelly bass-baritone singing voice having a bluesy, groove-based guitar-playing style. He and ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill are both known for having beards that reach their chests.
Bill Gibbons has performed alongside other musicians and appeared on television series, most notably Bones. Gibbons received the 32nd-greatest guitarist of all time ranking from Rolling Stone in 2001.
