However, one of the primary reasons San Francisco sought Lance as a potential long-term starter was his own injury history. After Trey Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury, the 49ers turned to Jimmy Garoppolo early this season. After Garoppolo suffered a season-ending injury against the Dolphins in Week 13, they’re turning to rookie Brock Purdy.
Garoppolo appeared in five games as a relief quarterback in 2015. On the season, he completed one of four passes for six yards and had a passer rating of 39.6.
