Step-by-Step Guide(with Pictures):

Here is the step-by-step pictorial guide you need to follow to make your bed in minecraft:

Step 1: Gather Wooden Planks

The first step in making a bed is to cut down some wood to gather planks. To make a bed, for example, the player needs a minimum of 2 logs. It’s recommended, however, that the player cuts down more to begin their game.

When making a crafting table, start by converting those recently acquired logs into wooden planks. To make wooden planks, simply place the logs that were collected into one of the slots in the survival inventory crafting table, as demonstrated below.

Place the logs in Crafting table

Once the logs are converted into wooden planks, you can then progress to making a crafting table. To make a crafting table, place four wooden planks in the survival crafting menu to fill each of the slots in the square once, as demonstrated below.

Now that you have a crafting table, you must go out and look for some sheep.

Step 2: Gather Wool

For a bed, you need to collect a minimum of 3 wool. Sometimes players will just kill the sheep, as that also drops wool, but the best way to do this is to use a pair of shears.

Wool can be found on sheep in Minecraft, and you can use shears to collect that wool. A single sheep can produce infinite amounts of wool over time, but will only give out from 1-3 pieces each time they are sheared.

Shears are a tool created using two pieces of iron, and can be made as shown above. Simply place two iron ingots diagonally from each other in the survival inventory crafting table.

Now that you’ve made your shears, they’re ready for use!

Find a sheep

After finding a sheep, you can right-click the sheep with the shears to collect the sheep’s wool without hurting the mob itself.

Seeing as you only need 3 pieces of wool to make a bed, you might get enough wool on the first shear. If not, you can shear the other sheep in the area; if you only have the one by you, you can just wait for it to eat some grass.

Step 3: Craft your Bed

Now that you have all the necessary blocks, you can make your bed.

Place down the crafting table

First, place down the crafting table and open the crafting table GUI.

Next, place a line of wood in either the middle or bottom row of the crafting table. Put a layer of wool on top of that wood to make a bed, as shown below.

Unique Mechanics of Beds

There are certain features that are unique to beds beyond simply sleeping. Falling onto a bed instead of another block will reduce the amount of fall damage the player takes by half. Alternatively, if the player manages to enter the bed before falling onto the block, the player will delay the fall damage until the next morning.

Beds also have a unique buoyancy effect where the player will bounce up when landing on a bed.

Using a bed in the nether or the end will cause it to explode violently. A player that is killed by an exploding bed in either of these dimensions will see the message “Player was defeated by intentional game design”.

Beds can also lower the amount of time it requires to cure a zombie villager. Iron bars also share this unique mechanic.

While beds only take up half of a block’s worth of space, a slab block cannot be placed directly on top of a bed.

Changes to Beds throughout Minecraft

Interestingly, crying obsidian was originally the intended block to reset spawn points. Once beds were introduced in the Beta 1.3 update of Minecraft, beds took up this role and crying obsidian was repurposed for aesthetic purposes.

Red was the only color of bed available until the 1.12 release of the Java edition of Minecraft.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have successfully made your bed in Minecraft. Now you may rest easily without any mobs spawning, and sleep away the nights so you can work and build in the day. Sleeping, although not vital in Minecraft, is recommended so that you are not threatened by the hostile mobs that spawn at night in the dark. It’s enough to encounter them in the mines as you’re searching for resources, let alone to have them banging on your front door at night.
