Hu Jintao was conservative in his approach to political reforms and reinstated state control in some economic sectors that had been loosening under the previous administration. Together with his fellow Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, Hu Jintao oversaw over 10 years of steady economic growth and development that solidified China’s position as a significant global power. The Scientific Outlook on Development, which aspired to create a “Harmonious Socialist Society” that was affluent and devoid of social conflict, was one of the ways Jintao attempted to increase socioeconomic equality at home.
