Idina Menzel, whose birth name was Idina Kim Mentzel, was born on May 30, 1971, in New York City, New York. She is a well-known American singer, songwriter, and actor. Menzel spent her childhood in both New Jersey and Long Island. She began her career as a wedding and bar mitzvah singer when she was 15 years old. She received her high school education from Syosset High School and her bachelor’s degree in theater from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1992.
Menzel’s career in the theater began in 1996 when she was cast as the first Maureen in the production of Rent that moved from Off-Broadway to Broadway. In addition, Menzel received her first Tony nomination for her performance in this role. Her debut studio album, titled Still I Can’t Be Still, was out the following year in 1998. She made her début in the film industry the next year, in 2001, with a supporting role in Kissing Jessica Stein (2001).
