Idrissa Gana Gueye, is a Senegalese professional football player who plays for both the Senegal national team and Premier League club Everton. He was born on September 26, 1989, and he is known to be a tenacious midfielder who excels at winning the ball, pressing defenders, and intercepting passes. He completed the most tackles in the Premier League in 2016–2017.
Gueye’s career with Diambars in his native Senegal, started before joining the reserve team of French club Lille in 2008. After winning the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double in 2011, he would go on to play for the team’s first team from 2010 to 2015 before joining Aston Villa in England. He signed with fellow Premier League team Everton a year later. Gueye signed with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the current Ligue 1 champions, in 2019 to make his way back to France, and he participated in the club’s 2020 UEFA Champions League Final run, although he missed PSG’s defeat.
Gueye made his Senegal debut in 2011. He participated in four Africa Cup of Nations games and two FIFA World Cups for Senegal, and assisted his nation in winning the competition’s final in 2022, after a loss in the 2019 final. He holds the record for most caps for Senegal and is the first Senegalese player to win more than 100.
