She obtained an economics degree from Syracuse University and afterwards worked for the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Later, Ina Garten left politics to pursue her love of cooking, opening Barefoot Contessa, a gourmet food store in the Hamptons. Following Garten’s initial foray into the culinary world at Barefoot Contessa, she went on to publish a number of best-selling cookbooks, magazine columns, and a well-liked Food Network television program.

The “Barefoot Contessa Cookbook” and “Barefoot Contessa Parties” are only two of her best-selling cookbooks. Garten hosted the “Barefoot Contessa” Food Network show from 2002 until 2018, a role for which she won multiple Emmy Awards. She is recognized for her uncomplicated cooking methods and uncomplicated, enticing food.
