The Indianapolis Colts made a huge move by signing wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie as free agency today. At the same time, they decided to add tight end Jelani Woods to the injured reserve list.
With his hamstring injury, Woods is expected to miss a minimum of four games as a result of his listing on the Injured Reserve list. At the beginning of this season, the Colts are anticipated to rely on a group of players that includes Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox, Andrew Ogletree, and Will Mallory to handle the team’s tight-end responsibilities.
Jelani Woods, towering at 6 feet 7 inches and weighing 253 pounds, was picked by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round, 73rd overall, during the 2022 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he made appearances in 15 games, including two starts, and made a notable impact by accumulating 25 receptions for 312 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
During his college career, Woods played a pivotal role at the University of Virginia in 2021, participating in 11 games, with 10 starts, and delivering an impressive performance with 44 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. His outstanding contributions led to him earning First Team All-ACC honors.
Before his time at Virginia, Woods had a college football journey at Oklahoma State from 2017 to 2020. Over this period, he played in 34 games, with 28 starts, and recorded 31 receptions for 361 yards and four touchdowns. His consistent efforts garnered him All-Big 12 honorable mention accolades for three seasons from 2018 to 2020.
Isaiah McKenzie, standing at 5 feet 8 inches and weighing 173 pounds, had an active presence in the Indianapolis Colts’ 2023 offseason program and training camp. His journey with the team began when he initially signed as a free agent on March 22, 2023.
Throughout his NFL career, which has spanned 80 games with 26 starts, McKenzie has showcased his versatility. He has played for the Buffalo Bills from 2018 to 2022 and the Denver Broncos from 2017 to 2018.
