Former football executive Gil Brandt who was the vice president of player personnel in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys from 1960 to 1988, has died at 91.

He has been credited with transforming the Dallas Cowboys from an expansion franchise into “America’s Team.” Under his leadership, coach Tom Landry and general manager Tex Schramm, along with the Cowboys posted 20 consecutive winning seasons from 1966 until 1985 and made five Super Bowl appearances, earning two championships.

On his demise, Sports journalist Andrew Brandt wrote on Twitter: “Saddened to hear the passing of Gil Brandt. One of the true pioneers of the NFL, a founding father in the scouting and player personnel world. RIP Gil. (and no, we are not related).”

Who is Andrew Brandt?

In 1982, Andrew graduated from Stanford with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1985, he graduated from Georgetown with Doctorate in Law. In 1991, he made history when he became one of the youngest general managers in sports with the Barcelona Dragons.

In 1999, he was named the Vice President of the Green Bay Packers. Nine years later, he became the Co-Founder of the National Football Post. In the same year, he appeared as a lecturer at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. In 2011, he was hired by ESPN as a Sports Business Analyst.

Is Andrew Brandt related to Gil Brandt?

Andrew Brandt is not related to Gil Brandt despite the two of them sharing the same last name. In fact, back in 2011, a Twitter use had asked him if he was related to Gil. In response, he said, “No (but wish I had a dollar for every time I’m asked) RT @hotts58 Andrew, are you related to Gil Brandt?” which made it clear that he was asked this question a lot.
