Antonio Inoki was a wrestler and a politician and was very popular during his active years. He once fought the great Mohammed Ali.

At the age of 17, Inoki met Rikidzan and followed him back to Japan to compete in the Japan Pro Wrestling Alliance (JWA). Upon reaching Japan, Inoki received instruction from kosen judoka Kiyotaka Otsubo and amateur wrestler Isao Yoshiwara in addition to his training with renowned Karl Gotch at the JWA academy. Giant Baba was one of his dojo classmates. After Rikidozan was killed, Inoki worked under Baba’s watchful eye until 1964, when he took a trip to the United States.

After a protracted wrestling tour of the US, Inoki settled down with Tokyo Pro Wrestling in 1966. Inoki grew to be the most well-known person there. Sadly, internal strife caused the company to shut down in 1967. When Baba returned to JWA in late 1967, Inoki was appointed his partner, and the two dominated the tag team ranks as the “B-I Cannon,” taking home four NWA International Tag Team Championship crowns.
