Assata Shakur relocated to North Carolina, with her mother and paternal grandparents in 1950, following the separation of her parents. Assata Shakur is also known to be the step-aunt of the renowned rapper artist Tupac Shakur.

The black American activist Assata Shakur according to many sources was said to have been wrongly treated while imprisoned. Shakur was placed in solitary confinement for more than a year in a men’s facility, tortured, and beaten.
