The movie featured Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Tom Sizemore, William Fichtner, Jason Isaacs, Sam Shepard, Jeremy Piven, Ioan Gruffudd, Ewen Bremner, Hugh Dancy, and Tom Hardy in his first acting role, however, the movie also has a large number of cast that includes Jeremy Piven. The minor characters are played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Ty Burrell, and Orlando Bloom.

After a restricted release on December 28, 2001, Black Hawk Down was made available to the whole public on January 18, 2002. Although it was condemned for being inaccurate and caused controversy for its representation of Somalis, but the movie earned excellent reviews from critics.
