Robert Chadwick Berry, known as Bob Berry, was an American professional football player who played as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for over a decade. He was born on March 10, 1942, in San Jose, California, and grew up in the state, attending South Eugene High School.
After high school, Berry enrolled at the University of Oregon, where he played college football as a quarterback. He was a three-year starter for the Ducks and earned All-Pacific Coast Conference honors in his senior year in 1963.
He finished his college career with 3,323 passing yards, 22 touchdown passes, and 17 interceptions. In 1964, Bob Berry was drafted by the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles in the 12th round.
However, he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers before the start of the regular season. Berry played for the 49ers for six seasons from 1964 to 1969, serving as the team’s starting quarterback for much of that time. In 1970, Berry was traded to the Atlanta Falcons, where he played for five seasons.
