British multinational oil and gas company BP p.l.c., formerly The British Petroleum Company plc and BP Amoco plc, has its headquarters in London, England. According to revenues and profits, it is among the biggest oil and gas companies in the world.

In order to operate in all facets of the oil and gas sector, including exploration and extraction, refining, distribution and marketing, power generation, and trading, BP has developed into a vertically integrated business.

Records reveal that BP actually dates back to the Anglo-Persian Oil Company’s establishment in 1908. BP was primarily founded as a Burmah Oil Company subsidiary to take advantage of oil discoveries in Iran. The company changed its name to Anglo-Iranian Oil Company in 1935, and then to British Petroleum in 1954.

Is BP Still In Business?

With its 2021 revenues, BP practically surpassed Saudi Aramco as the fourth-largest investor-owned oil company in the world. BP is still in operation.

BP ranked 122 in the world with a market capitalization of US$98.36 billion as of September 15, 2022. The company had US$164.2 billion in revenue in 2022, placing 35th on the Fortune Global 500.
