Brandon Johnson is an American politician from Illinois, he is a member of the Democratic Party, and he represents the first district on the Cook County Board of Commissioners.

Johnson won the Democratic primary election in March 2018 by defeating the incumbent, Commissioner Richard Boykin; he won the general election without any challengers and was re-elected in 2022.

Brandon Johnson became known through the ranks of the union, where he served as a field representative, political director, and eventually as the CTU’s Director of External Affairs.

In 2018, Johnson ran for and won a seat on the Chicago City Council, representing the 20th Ward. He campaigned on a platform of increasing affordable housing, supporting small businesses, and expanding access to quality education and healthcare.

Since he took the office, he has worked tirelessly to advance these goals, sponsoring legislation to increase the minimum wage, improve public transit, and strengthen tenant protections.
