When it was revealed that Dahmer had been masturbating in front of two boys who were 12 years old while he stood close to the Kinnickinnic River on September 8, 1986, he was taken into custody on suspicion of indecent and lascivious behavior.
Realizing there were witnesses, he originally said he had just been urinating, but soon admitted the act. On March 10, 1987, the accusation was revised to disorderly conduct, and Dahmer was sentenced to a year of probation with the additional requirement that he complete treatment.

When Curtis Straughter, then 17 years old, was waiting for a bus at Marquette University in February 1991, Dahmer observed him there. Straughter is said to have been lured to Dahmer’s apartment by the promise of cash in exchange for posing for nude photos as well as the promise of sex.
Dahmer administered narcotics to Straughter before tying his hands behind his back and strangling him with a leather strap. Then, when he dismembered Straughter, he photographed each stage while only keeping his hands, genitalia, and head.
