On May 22, 1987, Novak Djokovic was born in Belgrade, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia to Sran and Dijana Okovi. On his mother’s side, he has Serbian and Croatian ancestry.

Djokovic began playing tennis when he was four years old. His parents had given him a mini-racket and a soft foam ball, which, in the words of his father, “became the most adored object in his life.”

Then, his parents sent him to a tennis camp in Novi Sad. Djokovic attended a tennis camp sponsored by the Teniski Klub Partizan at Mount Kopaonik when he was six years old. His parents had a fast food restaurant and a business that sold sporting items there.
