The American mathematician, Frank joined the Navy’s Reserve Office Training Corps before enrolling at Cornell University as a freshman. After receiving his degree, he was appointed to the U.S.S. Alabama and given control of the ship’s electronics.
Additionally, Frank was enrolled at Harvard University as a graduate radio astronomy student.
The princess from Frank Baum’s book, Project Ozma, was the inspiration for Drake’s first SETI experiment. She lived in a world that was “both wonderful and far away,” hence the name.
Drake was a married man with two children as well as three children from his previous relationship who survived him.
