On August 1, 2015, the Civil and Commercial Code (Código Civil y Commercial), which replaced the previous Civil Code, went into effect, making civil unions legal throughout the country.

Is gay marriage legal in Argentina?

A gender identity law allowing transgender people to change their legal gender without a court order or medical assistance was also passed in Argentina in 2012. All of Argentina is legal for same-sex adoption.

Despite these progressive laws, there is still prejudice and violence against the LGBTQ+ community in Argentina, especially against trans people, who have a higher than average rate of poverty, unemployment, and violence.
