Some conservative organizations opposed the ruling, but the LGBTQ+ community and those who support it in Costa Rica and around the world praised the government’s decision to respect the court’s ruling and legalize same-sex unions.

As a result, same-sex couples now have access to the same legal privileges and advantages as heterosexual couples, such as the ability to adopt children, receive inheritances, and make healthcare decisions for one another.
