Is gay marriage legal in Greece?

Greece has not yet legalized gay marriage. In an effort to defend the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, the Greek government declared in July 2020 that they intended to present a bill to parliament that would permit same-sex couples to marry and adopt children.

Although some conservative and religious organizations have voiced opposition to this proposal, it still represents progress for LGBTQ+ rights in Greece. Despite the absence of marriage equality, the LGBTQ+ community is expanding in Greece, and there are numerous organizations and events that work to increase public understanding and acceptance of the group.
