George has received several accolades for his contributions to the Latino community, including the Imagen Vision Award in 2003, the Latino Spirit Award for Excellence in Television in 2003, and the National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact Award.
Time magazine also named George one of “The Top 25 Hispanics in America” in 2005.
Lopez was born and reared in Mission Hills, Los Angeles, California, the son of migrant workers Frieda and Anastasia Lopez. George is of Mexican descent.
Lopez attended San Fernando High School and graduated in 1979. Lopez featured in We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial in January 2009.
