House of the Dragon is a Game of Thrones prequel (2011–2019). Martin’s book A Song of Ice and Fire. Martin and Ryan Condal created House of the Dragon for HBO, and they also serve as the showrunners alongside Miguel Sapochnik. The series, which is based in part on the book Fire & Blood, takes place 172 years prior to Daenerys Targaryen’s birth and around 200 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones.

It depicts the events preceding up to and occurring during the “Dance of the Dragons,” commonly known as the Targaryen war of succession, as well as the start of House Targaryen’s demise.

House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with casting starting in July 2020 and principal photography starting in the UK in April 2021. The first season of the show will consist of ten episodes and will broadcast on August 21, 2022.

Is House of Dragon sequel or prequel?

Despite being a follow-up to the first Game of Thrones series, House of the Dragon is considered a prequel rather than a sequel because its plot and setting take place before Game of Thrones’ events.
