After working several jobs and traveling overseas, Hunter bought the domain for his website with the primary intention of using it to review clubs and other nightlife spots. But when a friend convinced him to post a photo of a woman Hunter was at the time having sex with, everything changed. The website quickly gained popularity, drawing more viewers and, as a result, worse behavior.
Users anonymously sent graphic sexual photographs as Hunter and his colleagues uploaded them. But things didn’t stop there. It was easy for website visitors to find the unaware men or women who were being posted on the page because they would also receive information about the people listed there on social media.

Nearly five million people visited Hunter’s website in a single month at one point, generating between $20,000 and $30,000 in advertising revenue. Hunter didn’t appear phased by the harsh criticism or the nature of the site.

Is IsAnyoneUp still available?

it was shut down in April 2012, two years after numerous individuals suffered trauma as a result of their exposure to Hunter’s website. For a small amount at the time, Hunter sold the domain to web businessman James McGibney. Back then, anyone who visited the website was forwarded to James’ BullyVille, a website where victims of bullying can share their experiences. Hunter claimed that he made the decision to sell because it was becoming more challenging to sort through the influx of child pornography submissions.
