James Conrad Verraros, an American singer, songwriter, and actor, came in ninth place during the inaugural season of American Idol. He is an expert signer who was well-known on American Idol for signing the words to his audition song. His parents were hard of hearing.
After competing on the show, Jimmy teamed up with music producer and composer Gabe Lopez to release three pop rock and dance albums.
On the 2002 compilation album American Idol: Best Moments, which reached at number four on the Billboard 200 list, Verraros also sang a rendition of the Commodores’ “Easy.”

YES. While participating in the 2002 American Idols LIVE! tour, Jimmy came out as gay. For more than three years, he was the only out homosexual finalist on American Idol. He was the first contestant to come out on the show.
Later, Verraros received praise for his work on behalf of the homosexual community from a number of organizations (including Out magazine, which twice included him on its “Most Intriguing People” list—in 2002 and 2006).
Throughout his musical career, Verraros has performed at several occasions honoring the LGBTQ community. He also gave performances at homosexual bars.
