Michael Mackenzie Lowe “Mackie” McDonald is an American professional tennis player who was born on April 16, 1995. On February 7, 2022, he achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 49, and on August 23, 2021, he achieved a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 180. He won both the singles and doubles titles at the 2016 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.

 

McDonald reached the fourth round of a Major for the second time in 2021, defeating Marco Cecchinato, 22nd seed Borna ORI, and Lloyd Harris. He was defeated in straight sets in the fourth round by eventual finalist Daniil Medvedev.

 

McDonald reached the ATP 500 semifinals for the first time at the 2021 Citi Open, defeating defending champion Nick Kyrgios, 13th seed BenoƮt Paire, Ilya Ivashka, and Denis Kudla. There, he defeated 2015 champion Kei Nishikori in three sets to reach his first ATP final. McDonald was defeated in three sets by fifth seed Jannik Sinner in the final. As a result, he returned to the top 100 for the first time in two years, climbing more than 40 positions.

Following second-round appearances at the 2022 Australian Open and the 2022 Open Sud de France, he made his top 50 debut on February 7, 2022, at world No. 49. He defeated eighth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in 65 minutes in the 2022 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam. In the second round, he was defeated in three sets by Alex de Minaur.
