Maria Nemeth, one of the top dramatic sopranos of the interwar era, was a Hungarian soprano (Németh Mária; March 13, 1897 – December 28, 1967). She was most closely identified with the Italian repertory.

Körmend is where Nemeth was born. She began her studies with Georg Anthes and Géza László in Budapest before continuing with Kaschowska in Vienna, Giannina Russ in Milan, Fernando de Lucia in Naples, and Giannina Russ in Milan. In 1923, she appeared on stage for the first time in Budapest in The Queen of Sheba by Karl Goldmark as Sulamith. She began her career playing lyric and high soprano roles before progressively expanding her repertoire to include dramatic roles.

She performed as Turandot at the Royal Opera House in London in 1931 and Constanze in the Abduction from the Seraglio at the Paris Opéra in 1928. She was a star soprano at the Vienna State Opera from 1925 to 1946.
