Peter Barter, the former Governor of Papau New Guinea was born on March 26, 1940. He was an Australian born but later neutralized as Papau New Guinean. Peter was a politician and businessman.
He was born in Sydney and had his college education at Newington College from 1992 and graduated in 1995. He later trained as commercial fixed wing and helicopter. He flew for Qantas at the time of his career as pilot.
He played a major role in the peace process on the Island of Bougainville.
Peter was a hero of the peace process and he was there when the region endorsed its first peace agreement.
Peter established the Melanesian Foundation in the year 1980. The founding is a non profitable organization that makes investments in remote communities in Mandang.
Peter helped people even outside politics. Both the old and young.
He reached out to the four corners of Bougainville to preach the need for peace.
Peter is not alive. He died on 20th June 2022 as a result of a rare terminal heart condition he developed and battled for years.
