Egypt became a Roman province after Cleopatra’s death, ending the second-to-last Hellenistic era and state that had existed since Alexander’s reign (336–323 BC).

Through ancient and contemporary art, the memory of Cleopatra lives on.

Despite being born in Egypt, Cleopatra descended from Alexander the Great’s general Ptolemy I Soter in Macedonia.

Ptolemy ruled Egypt after Alexander’s death in 323 B.C., and his Greek-speaking dynasty lasted for nearly three centuries.

After learning the Egyptian language from her mother, Cleopatra became the first dynasty member to speak it.

Is Ptolemy XIV Cleopatra’s brother?

Ptolemy XIV Theos Philopator II, also known as “Ptolemy the Father-Loving God,” was the Macedonian king of Egypt from 47 to 44 bc.

He ruled alongside his elder sister, the famous Cleopatra VII, who is said to have assassinated him in 44 in order to pave the way for Ptolemy XV Caesar (Caesarion), who was her son by Julius Caesar.

Cleopatra ended up remarrying her younger brother Ptolemy XIV when the battle was over. On the other hand, there is speculation that she later orchestrated Ptolemy XIV’s death in an effort to promote Caesarion to the role of co-ruler alongside her son.
