According to the Pakistani newspaper known as The Nation, before Gill’s disappearance, she had over $5 million USD in her possession.
After Gill’s disappearance, her family reported that they received text messages from Gill, when she got to Pakistan. They reported that they received the messages on the 26th and 27th August 2012. When the family provided gill’s cell phone records to authorities, the records indicate that the last message Gill sent was to the Pakistani television personality she had met through the online dating site.
Pakistani officials arrested two suspects who are cousins in 2013 named Hafiz Shahzad Hussain and Shahid Ghazanfar. Hafiz confessed that he and his cousin killed Gill and dumped her body in a rural canal. Their reason was that Shahid owed Gill a huge sum of money so instead of paying Gill, they decided to kill her instead.
In the year 2017, a Pakistani court later acquitted Hafiz Shahzad who was accused of killing due to lack of evidence against him.
