In 1992, he was featured on Dr. Dre’s first solo single, “Deep Cover,” and then on his first solo album, The Chronic, which helped launch his career.
Since then, Snoop Dogg has sold over 35 million albums worldwide and over 23 million albums domestically. His achievements include 17 Grammy Award nominations, an American Music Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award.
Snoop Dogg’s first solo album, Doggystyle was produced by Dr. Dre and released by Death Row Records in November 1993.
It debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart for popular albums and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The singles “What’s My Name?” and “Gin and Juice” were on the quadruple-platinum-certified 1994 album Doggystyle, which sold 800,000 copies in its first week.
A soundtrack for the 1994 Snoop-starring short film Murder Was the Case, by Broadus, was made available through Death Row Records. In 1996, “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head” served as the first single for his second album, Tha Doggfather, which similarly debuted at the top of both charts. The album was awarded double-platinum status the following year.
