The Swimmers, a biographical drama film that Sally El Hosaini and Jack Thorne co-wrote, will be helmed by El Hosaini in 2022. The cast of the film includes Nathalie Issa, Manal Issa, Elmi Rashid Elmi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Ali Suliman, Kinda Alloush, and Elmi Malek.

The story of Yusra Mardini, a young refugee from Olympia who, along with her sister Sara, towed a dinghy of refugees across the Aegean Sea to safety.

The Swimmers made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2022, and was then distributed in select theatres on November 11, 2022.

Prior to its November 23, 2022, Netflix streaming debut, it was screened at the Marrakesh International Film Festival’s evening gala on November 18, 2022. Manal Issa and Nathalie Issa will portray real sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini in the upcoming Working Title Films and Netflix film The Swimmers.
