After being given the Bharat Ratna posthumously, Tej Hazarika currently oversees a foundation in Dr. Hazarika’s honour to carry on the singer’s eternal legacy. Tej recently made a trip to India to accept the award. A three-year-old initiative called Life at the Bhupen Hazarika Foundation that has connections to the North East and Assam is seen as a bridge between New York and the area.
