Before going to Yucaipa High School in Yucaipa, California, Wells spent his freshman and sophomore years at University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia.

He was 8-0 with a 0.84 ERA as a junior in 2012. He was a senior in 2013 and had an ERA of 0.28. Wells made the decision to attend California State University, San Bernardino, and chose to play baseball for the Coyotes there.

Wells was chosen by the Baltimore Orioles in the Rule 5 draft on December 10, 2020. He was a member of the Opening Day roster in 2021. Wells made his MLB debut on April 4, 2021, tossing a scoreless ninth inning in relief against the Boston Red Sox.

On the other hand, David Lee Wells, born May 20, 1963, in Torrance, California, is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher who played for nine organizations, most notably the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees. Wells, who went by the nickname “Boomer,” was regarded as one of the best left-handed pitchers in the league throughout his career and earned three All-Star selections. He threw the 15th perfect game in baseball history in 1998.

Wells was reliant on his mother, who worked multiple jobs to support him and his four siblings, as he grew up in the San Diego community of Ocean Beach and attended neighbourhood public schools. He played basketball and baseball while attending Point Loma High School, where he graduated.
