Winston Conrad (Wink Martindale) was born on December 4, 1933. Wink Martindale is an American disc jockey, radio host, game show host, and television producer. In his six-decade career, he is most known for presenting the gameshows Gambit from 1972 to 1976 (and again from 1980 to 1981), Tic-Tac-Dough from 1978 to 1985, High Rollers from 1987 to 1988, and Debt from 1996 to 1998.

Wink Martindale began his career as a disc jockey at WPLI in Jackson at the age of 17, making $25 per week. Martindale was born in Jackson, Tennessee.
Wink Martindale was hired away by Jackson’s only other station, WDXI, at twice the salary after relocating to WTJS. Later, while attending Memphis State University for his undergraduate studies, he was a morning host at WHBQ in Memphis. Wink Martindale earned his Bachelor of Science there in 1957. Martindale enrolled in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity there and joined.

On the evening of July 10, 1954, he was showing some friends about the WHBQ studio when he noticed that Dewey Phillips, a coworker working the 9 p.m. to midnight shift, was receiving a lot of feedback from listeners after playing a new song.
