Since the early 1970s, Jah Shaka has operated a roots reggae Jamaican sound system in South East London. He is a Jamaican reggae/dub sound system operator.

Jah Shaka was born in Jamaica’s Clarendon Parish, which has given birth to a number of roots reggae musicians. Shaka Zulu, the Zulu leader, and the Rastafarian term for God are combined to form his name.

Shaka served as an operator for the Freddie Cloudburst Sound System before to starting his own sound system. By the late 1970s, Shaka’s system had garnered a substantial and loyal following as a result of the mix of spiritual substance, high-energy rhythms, incredible sonority, and Shaka’s dynamic personal style.

In 1989, Shaka visited Jamaica and worked with many musicians there, including King Tubby. On September 23, 2000, a house fire caused serious injuries to him. Jah Shaka gave a performance at New York City’s Central Park in 2002 in front of a huge audience.
