After undergoing many operations on his right elbow, right foot, and right shoulder, Duckworth rose to a career-high ranking of 47 in the world in 2021.

He also set a personal milestone in 2021, winning 22 matches at the tour level, the highlight of which was his first-ever ATP Tour final appearance at Nur-Sultan.

At the Miami ATP Masters 1000 competition, the Australian won the biggest match of his career by defeating David Goffin, who was ranked 13th in the world at the time.

Duckworth started playing tennis and other sports at the age of seven. His father David is a surgeon, and his grandmother Beryl Penrose won the singles and doubles titles in the 1955 Australian Championships (ATP).

His coach is another Australian, Mark Draper, a former professional athlete. Three Grand Slam tournaments, including Wimbledon, when Greg Rusedski, the fourth seed, had to withdraw due to an injury, saw Draper compete in the singles division.

When the ATP season kicks off in Australia in 2022, Duckworth will be seeking to build on the success of the prior season. The 50-year-old and Duckworth appear to have built a strong working connection.
