Anne Wiazemsky was a French novelist and actress who lived from May 14, 1947, until October 5, 2017. At the age of 18, she made her acting debut as Marie, the main character in Robert Bresson’s Au Hasard Balthazar (1966). She then made appearances in a number of Jean-Luc Godard movies, including La Chinoise (1967), Week End (1967), and One Plus One (1967). (1968).

Anne Wiazemsky was the maternal granddaughter of playwright and novelist François Mauriac. She was often asked to marry her by director Robert Bresson while they were filming Au Hasard Balthazar in 1966, but she declined. She wed Jean-Luc Godard in 1967 and went on to appear in several of his films. The marriage officially ended in divorce in 1979, though the two had already begun to drift apart in 1970.

Wiazemsky signed the Manifesto of the 343 in 1971, publicly admitting that she had an abortion to support reproductive rights even though it was against the law in France at the time.
