In November 2013, it was announced that Charlo will meet Philadelphia veteran boxer and former world championship candidate Gabriel Rosado (21-7, 13 KOs) on Showtime on January 25, 2014, at the D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C. Rosado has gone 0-2-1 in his last three contests. He was also relocating to light middleweight after having little success at middleweight, and he stated he would be Charlo’s most difficult opponent.
Jermell Charlo soundly outboxed Rosado in a lopsided 10-round unanimous decision to pass the most important test of his career. The judges scored the bout 100-90, 99-91, and 97-93 in favor of Charlo. Charlo landed 50% of his punches fired, while Rosado landed 18%.
